Aduh! Ceramics

My name is Amber. I am a Brooklyn-based ceramist artist originally from the Netherlands. With my ceramics, I strive to create pieces that make people happy just as much as they make me.

In the beginning of 2021, I quit my corporate job to become a full time ceramics artist. It was a big leap of faith, but it was still everything I hoped it would be and has made me the happy person I am today. After being a consultant for 5 years and living behind my laptop, I was eager to actually create something tangible with my hands. Getting clay from the ground to a functional or decorative piece, is still something I cannot wrap my head around.

I was in dire need to get out of my head, to stop overthinking everything in my life. Wheel throwing helped with that; in that moment, time stops, or time flies, or both, it’s almost a surreal moment where nothing exists but you and the wheel. It's a surprising kind of meditation I didn’t realize I needed. When I step out of the studio at the end of the day, it's like no time has passed, and I’m suddenly so clear-minded and at ease. I think it is safe to say that I never had that feeling for anything in my life.
